Bristol and South West group trip to Latin Fest - 28th - 31st August 2009!

Fantastic Salsa Weekend at Scala - Kings Cross - London organised by the Latin Collective. August 28th - 31st 2009.
I am organising a group to go up to this event with a fantastic group discount. I went last year and to the mini fest this year and loved it. The weekend includes workshops in Salsa On1 & On2, Cuban inc Rueda, Cha Cha, Bachata, Lambada/Zouk amongst others with top international teachers during the day and then some great all night parties til 6am including some fabulous shows! The good thing is the workshops don't start til around 1pm so you can party all night and still make them without an early start.
The venue is great with 4 rooms to choose from. The main Salsa room, Cuban, Urban Latino (Bachata, Lambada, Reggaeton etc) and the chill out Soul/R&B room with music from the 80's until now!
The weekend pass includes all the workshops and parties on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Record Breaking Salsa Attempt - 19th July

Want to be a record breaker and discover your Latin spirit? Then join in with BBC Hereford & Worcester on Sunday 19th July when they attempt to create the largest Salsa class in aid of BBC Children in Need.

The current world record is held by a group of people in Russia and stands at 1,830. It was set in July 2007 and this year the aim is to smash that record with over 2,000 dancing non-stop for 10 minutes.

Regular Salsa dancers and newcomers from across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and beyond are needed to achieve this. Dancers from twelve upwards - no upper age limit - and both men and women can be a part of it. Salsa groups and individuals have already signed up but many more are needed.

Local Salsa professional, Lindsey Beard from B60 Salsa in Bromsgrove, has put together the routine to be used for the world record attempt. It's a series of basic movements called shines and will be performed in line dance form. A video and printed step by step guide can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester for those wishing to practice at home.

The music has been provided by one of the UK's foremost Latin music producers, Alex Wilson whose 'Show Me' track will be used for the dance record.

The attempt will take place at The Sixways Stadium in Worcester on the 19th July as part of the day of Salsa. Workshops, showcase performances and live Salsa Music will lead up to the world record routine around 2pm. It's free to take part and a collections for BBC Children in Need will be made throughout the day. BBC Midland Today will be covering the day's events.

Cuban Band Mojito to play at the Summer Salsa Weekender on Friday 3rd July.

This five piece band mix salsa with reggae, funk, jazz and hip-hop to create their own unique style guaranteed to pack the dancefloor! Fronted by the enigmatic Damian from Havana, they are also comfortable with the many Cuban salsa and son classics.
Damian is a dynamic and experienced vocalist comfortable with classic standards as well as new styles such as timba and reggaeton. Also a professionally trained dancer, he has been surrounded by the many musical influences of Havana throughout his life.
Then on guitar is the virtuoso Jim who's montunos swing and solos take it to another level! The rhythm section comprises Andy on bass, Arturo on congas and Rich on kit/timbales.
Their vibrant style and energy are guaranteed to provide an electric atmosphere.

The success of the last two events has meant that we have increased the size of our venue! The Reddings Community Centre is purposebuilt for serious dancers, the dancefloor covers the entire large hall area and has a beautiful surface. There is also parking onsite for convenience.
