In many ways tango is more conservative than salsa in that there is more ettiquette in asking for someone to dance and for how long a couple will dance together. Vinay is very popular on the tango scene, and is welcomed at Milongas both in Bristol and beyond. In an evironment where it is far more intimidating for a woman to approach a man for a dance (it is tolerated but generally frowned upon), than it is in salsa, Vinay is frequently approached by ladies of all ages and abilities for a dance; all of whom leave him with a smile upon their faces.
Concerning salsa, personally I enjoy dancing with Vinay, and have never been dropped, hurt or injured by him in anyway. As with most of the gentlemen I have the pleasure of dancing with, occasionally things don't go according to plan, with good spirit we blame each other, laugh and continue dancing.
Unfortunately we are not all compatible dancers with each other, and there are a small number of men who I choose not to dance with, either because they make me feel uncomfortable, or they hurt me; snapped wrists and dislocated shoulders are my usual complaints, oh nearly forgot, I have been head banged not once but three times so on and so forth. However these guys are other ladies' favourite dancers; which leads me to conclude that the salsa community and its spirit is big enough to accomadate us all! (If you don't believe me go to a milonga ;-))
