When I started learning 'La Rueda' years ago, as I didn't and still don't speak Spanish (that's my excuse), not only did I have issues but also problems with the lingo and how the South American teachers pronounced the same word slightly differently.
However, one day when I was attending a class, a different teacher who seemed concerned how the class was not reacting to his calls, said to the class to think 'abajo' like going downstairs, while 'arriba' like going upstairs. He 'translated' most of difficult La Rueda labels throughout the lesson. It has stuck with me since then.
What I learned from this teacher was that how wonderful that he could 'translate' those names with memorable associations and that I believe that's how a good teacher should do.
