Pop. has over 400,000 latinos in the immediate area , probably 60/70% mexicano (the remainder of the latinos , by and large, do not support the local clubs as much as they use to )
When i opened my first studio in 1978, the interest in Mambo/Salsa, was contained in the dance schools . The 1st full time latin club did not open until 1994 ( it closed this yr ).
Just before I left, I was teaching salsa and DJing part time in a PR club/rest...it didnt survive beyond 2yrs !!.
The week day business was practically zero ( except when I had my class on a Wed nite )
