Wouldn't say R'n'B has a "thump thump" rhythm - that's Euro pop you're thinking of. R'n'B rhythms are syncopated, giving them the same level of smoothness as those of Salsa (in fact sometimes even smoother!).

We are talking about the clave not the finer points of musical pigeon holing.
I don't what the hell you call it there is just too much of it. Anyway whoever hijacked the term "R&B" needs flogging. there is absolutely no blues in contemporary R&B whatsoever.
