event description: Their positive energy, endearing personalities and powerful performances soon attracted attention in Europe. Their first two albums came out on the French label Label Bleu and Asere went on to perform all over the world from Norway to Sri Lanka, including notching up over 700 shows in the UK. After a successful 60 show debut US tour in 2016 the band returned to the states by popular demand for 2 more 3 month tours. 'Full of vitality, artfully poised between past and present.' – The Sunday Times Asere have concentrated mainly on their musical heritage in the son style. Son combines African rhythms with song structures from Spanish tradition. Originating in rural eastern Cuba at the end of the 19th century, son became a highly fashionable dance form, taking the elegant salónes of Havana by storm in the early decades of the 20th century. In the 1970s son became one of the key ingredients of salsa, which emerged out of the Latin scene in New York. In the late 1990s, on the wave of the Buena Vista Social Club, son became a worldwide phenomenon with Asere, a vanguard of the new generation, Eliades Ochoa warmly describing their role as 'Son del Nuevo Milenio' (Son of the New Millennium). Asere combine within their repertoire several other musical styles such as Nueva Trova, Cha Cha Chá, Guaguancó and Pilón adding their own unique stamp. Over the last 3 decades, Asere have collaborated with other artists including the majestic Totó la Momposina and legendary drummer Billy Cobham. They have built a global audience with a dedicated following, monthly listeners on Spotify average well over 170k. 'There's plenty of art in making music sound effortless.' – The Guardian Asere continue to charge ahead, keeping Cuban music alive with their upcoming single, Pilón. Inspired by the pounding of sugarcane, the Pilón rhythm is known for it's driving percussion and distinctive interplay of piano and guitar guajeos. Also a dance style, this infectious groove is impossible to resist. With their unmistakable flair, Asere breathe new life into this rich tradition, delivering a sound as powerful on the dance floor as it is true to it's roots.
